Marino Iotti
Passaggi
This exhibition is intended to add a piece to Marino Iotti’s already long career, investigating and putting together the most recent works of his painting cycle, as always not a point of arrival but a passage loaded with all the previous baggage and awaiting the next creation. An exhibition to sanction the passage from a purely informal and abstract painting to a more ‘writing’ painting where graphic elements such as the word, graffiti and natural drawings have ever greater relevance.
To understand Marino Iotti’s painting, one has to enter delicately and on tiptoe following the path of crumbs, of words, of details that the artist leaves along the path that unravels on the canvas. It is like walking on a musical score that note after note accompanies you from one element to another and surprises you with a peak of colour, caresses you with warm and enveloping ochres, makes you plummet into a very deep black from which you rise by clinging to a painted wooden insert.
His paintings are like a garden of wonders where, between layers of colour, graffiti, wood and wallpaper, natural elements emerge, and there is a tree, a flower, a dragonfly.
His work is articulated in several layers, in deeper and deeper layers of understanding. Immediately comes the disruptive impact of colour, the balances of light and dark, the violent reds or peaceful blue greys that whisper gently in your ear. When everything has quieted down and your soul stops vibrating from the impulses of colour comes the attention to detail. Our gaze is captured by small details and moves restlessly over the surface of the painting from one element to the next; every second spent observing a painting by Marino leads to the discovery of new details that make wonder and expectation blossom for the next promise.
Finally, the quotation: Marino is a poet who writes with painting, immersed in his time but aware of the past, he inserts quotations and references to great artists who have gone before him, writers, musicians, poets, into his works.
Quotations, homages to nature, music, poetry.
